Snuggle Time Devotions That End With a Hug! by Stephen Elkins

This beautifully illustrated children's book by Stephen Elkins is a celebration of life! I love the fact that there were so many birds, bees, bunnies, blue skies, Bible verses and so much more on each and every page!

The format was the same for each devo. So well organized.
  • Title, verse location, verse written out in a heart with a ribbon swirl.
  • My snuggle up story
  • My snuggle time takeaway
  • My Bible time activity.
  • Hug! time on the side of the page
Though the recommended ages were not listed on Snuggle Time Devotions, I do imagine an entire family  reading this anointed work together. I can't help but smile when I envision how fun reading each day and then making sure each child understands - then hugging would be! This book is the best "tuck-in-time" book ever....

I was happy to see that this book is part of a series and also a video series as well. For more information see www.share-a-hug.com!

101 Bible Adventures: The Ultimate Quest for Truth! by Carolyn Larsen

Author Carolyn Larsen wrote an amazingly concise yet powerful book for children of all ages. This paperback gem of a book appealed to me firstly because of the organization of each chapter. I have read many children's devotional books in which the lessons taught are chock full of cuteness but lack depth and application.

Application is what I believe most lacking in our churches in general. And so, to witness a book for children that included application in each chapter was refreshing, to say the least. I first viewed the Table of Contents for an overall assessment of topics. Old and New Testament selections with the key verse and main Truth presented was listed.

Each chapter listed a What's Up section, the key verse, Scripture mentioned, the story in an easy to understand telling, a cartoon, and a Now What? section. This book featured the New Living Translation version of the Bible.
On a negative note, I would have liked to have seen more visuals in each chapter. The cartoon characters and their commentary was helpful, but for a younger child, I felt more pictures would have been beneficial. Since the cartoons were black and white, having a slightly larger picture for younger children to color would have been a nice touch.

I truly enjoyed reviewing 101 Bible Adventures: The Ultimate Quest for Truth! by Carolyn Larsen. This world needs more of this type of resource to help teach and guide our His children to not only discover the Truth of the Bible but to also be able to allow the Word to apply to their own lives, thus changing the next generation. To God be the glory!!!

Eat Your Peas Daughter by Cheryl Karpen

Beautiful work of art inside and out! I was pleased with the feel of the pages and the cover as no expense was spared with the luscious stationary paper and textured cover.

Eat Your Peas Daughter is described by the author as "a 3-minute celebration." This book will become a keepsake gift from mom to daughter. I cried tears of joy just thinking about a daughter receiving and keeping this book from her mom or dad (and possibly passing on to her own daughter one day). This book would be perfect for the unborn baby too as it is screaming "hope chest."

Each pastel-shaded page contains affirming statements as well as either a pea pod, flower silhouettes or curlyques on the opposite page. The verbiage is plain and direct but the simplicity in which the statements flow is precious.

Psalm 139 was included which was very special as seeing this Scripture verse confirmed to me that this book truly would be a great baby shower gift. The one page a man and woman held a baby and the caption was, "When you were first placed in my arms, I had no idea what wonders awaited me." Interestingly, the man is holding the baby with the woman leaning over his shoulder. Therefore this book could also be from daddy!

The title Eat Your Peas Daughter was explained by the author in commentary at the back of the book. In the P.S. author Cheryl Karpen explains, "My mama always said, "Eat your peas! They're good for you." The pages of this book are filled with nutrients for your heart. They're simply good for you too!"

One criticism I had was that though this book is designed to be read in three minutes, I was disappointed how quickly I read it. I would have loved to have basked in that pastel, positive place alot longer!!

I also wish I had a daughter to give this book to or even have been given this book by my own mom or dad. I truly enjoyed reviewing this book. I recommend this book for everyone to buy to give to their daughter!

If the rest of the Eat Your Peas series is as amazing - The French Peas in Veggie Tales may need to be re-cast as The French Ears of Corn...
