Turmeric Powder by Quiwi Foods

Holy healthy living. This is truly what I aspire to and I aspire to share healthy habits with my family as well. Quiwi Foods has made this endeavor that much easier with the Turmeric Powder they have so generously provided for this review.

First of all, this item is so affordable and the 1 lb package arrived flat and easier to store until you open it. It does have a resealable seal but you will want to store it in an air tight glass container once you open it as it so fresh and pungent. You will want to keep it that way as when you are ready to use it, you want it to be the same bright beautiful color as well so you will know you are getting the most antioxidant goodness you can get! Also, if you do not keep this item in an air tight container, it may affect other items next to it as it can affect the taste of other food items if not in an airtight container. It is that fresh and strong!

I bought a capsule maker machine awhile back and really do enjoy making my own ginger capsules and as well as kelp capsules. This was my first foray into combining ginger powder with turmeric powder. My goal is to cut down on my digestive enzymes during meals. Because this Turmeric Powder was so fine it was easy peasy to mix with ginger (which was the same grind) to make the capsules. The Turmeric Powder did become less powdery and a bit heavier in consistency as there is a high humidity in my South Florida kitchen when I made the capsules.

I have to be honest in that I do not like Turmeric Powder of any ilk in my food and I did not test this powder in my food either. I prefer to take the vegetable capsules which I make instead so I cannot tell you how it tasted in food.

I did not have any after burps with the capsules and I did not have any indigestion so I know this product was high grade and a very important item for my pantry!

Tumeric and curcumin have been shown to reduce inflammation, cure depression, increase serotonin levels in the brain, and prevent certain types of cancer. It is a distant "cousin" of the ginger plant. Why not? Make your own capsules today and save and enjoy holy health!

Raw Cacao Nibs from Quiwi Foods

Oh my goodness (literally)! I have been seeking cacao nibs which have a low sugar, cholesterol and sodium content. This product not only has low sugar, cholesterol and sodium but no sugar, cholesterol or sodium! As soon as I ripped open the packaging (couldn't wait to get started!) I could smell the burniliciously good chocolately aroma (I made up those words). Not sure what gives these nibs the almost smoky smell but I love it!

The dietary fiber is just under 40% for a 2 tablespoon serving size. These raw cacao nibs will be the perfect snack and 2 tablespoons is a handful of raw cacao nibs. So good for you and these cacao nibs actually taste like chocolate and have a crunchy texture. I cannot something so tasty can also be so good for you and even though the saturated fat is 7 grams, it is the good for you fat like avocados and coconut oil.

I also appreciate the iron, calcium, zinc potassium and magnesium.

This product arrived quickly and was packaged in a sturdy, attractive re-sealable plastic packaging. Of course I transferred it to a glass jar in my snack pantry as it is such a beautiful product and seeing it next to all of my other healthy snacks makes me smile.

Quiwi Foods is doing good things and it is my pleasure to support their efforts in promoting Farm To You. This item is a product of Peru. Quiwi Foods is located in San Francisco, CA.

I am so blessed to review such a wonderful healthy yummy product. I am so happy I found Quiwi Foods Raw Cacao Nibs. These healthy chocolately treats will be a staple in my house. Thank you Quiwi Foods!

HCI-Ease by Biotics Research from OVitaminPro.com

Workout. Some may consider this word anathema. I do not. I consider this word just as important as the air I breathe, a blessing, a necessity, a vacation for limbs in need of stretching and the solution for stiff joints which are screaming for movement.

2015 was a year-long detox. My year consisted of gluten purging, blood testing and being flat on my back and sick to my stomach for days on end. Finally being cleared by my doc to workout again, I tried to swim in my morning Masters workout after not swimming for 8 months. What was worse than being out of breath and feeling like my limbs were licorice was the fact that I had heartburn. Really bad. The heartburn actually started within a minute of becoming horizontal in the water. This fact was hard for me to accept because I had just become victorious in defeating leaky gut, excessive candida and acid reflux.

Defeated, I stood at the end of the lane. I was not only weak and feeling like this was my first day ever working out in the water, but I also was frustrated because of the burning in the pit of my stomach. This unpleasant burning kept me from getting back in shape. I could not concentrate and I left the pool early that day.

Needless to say, I emailed my doctor as soon as I got home (he is so wonderful to help me via email when I need a bit of advice) and he told me about HCI-Ease by Biotics Research.

I reached out to OVitaminPro.com and Jennifer helped me and soon I had this amazing product in hand. I took only 1 capsule (per doctor's orders) before my workout with a banana and a handful of nuts and some almond milk mixed with a scoop of pea protein.

Ahhhh! No heartburn or even a hint of heartburn. Success! I was able to do my workout and not worry that my stomach would let me down. This product contains a Proprietary Blend that I feel would be great not only pre-workout but every now and then to feel good! Also it is gluten and dairy free which gluten free is a necessity for me nowadays but dairy free is a real bonus!

There is a warning on the bottle which states 'Not recommended for those with salicylate intolerance'. I do not have that issue. One great aspect (among many) is that Dr. Dan at www.ovitaminpro.com is on standby to answer questions such as this. If you do not even know what salicylate intolerance means and you have issues with heartburn during a workout and want to workout - then Ask Dr. Dan! If you click the name of the product you are interested in, and then go to the tab Ask Dr. Dan next to the Product Label you can click on the Ask A Question icon and ask anything you want to know about that product and how it may help you!

I am blessed to have a doctor whom I can consult with but I also very much appreciate getting advise from Dr. Dan and Mary at www.OVitaminPro.com! I love hearing different views about different supplements. I gather all the information and make my best choice!

HCI-Ease is also very helpful if I wake up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache. I have been having stomach aches lately due to my Clearvite Detox. I am still navigating my way through the Preparation Phase and since my body is screaming for dairy (quit it cold turkey) my stomach has been waking me up in rebellion. I like the HCI-Ease in the middle of the night because unlike Betaine HCI I do not have to eat something with it. I just roll over in bed, grab 1 capsule and I am back counting sheep in no time!

I am so grateful to live in a country where these wonderful supplements and aids are readily available! I will never take for granted the fact that I am surrounded by knowledgeable, helpful, health-minded people! The folks at OVitaminPro.com have been so good to me.

Please visit today. And if you do not see what you are looking for - ask Dr. Dan! Whether you are getting ready to climb Mt. Olympus, swim the Adriatic Sea or are gearing up for the Skinny Jean Workout with Booya Fitness - you will enjoy the journey after taking HCI-Ease by Biotics Research!! Workout = a wonderful word! Embrace it today with no heartburn!

Pharmocracy by William Faloon

300+ pages of eye-opening information which every wise purchaser of anything supplement or drug-related needs in the evil days in which we are living! I was excited to review this hardcover book for many reasons. However, the takeaway which stuck with me the most was the new knowledge I have gained regarding the FDA and the corruption which exists in our government when it comes to trying to control the entire health care industry.

As the daughter of a Hospital Director of Pharmacy and Geriatric Specialist, I knew a bit about business aspect of the drug industry. I saw the little trinkets and logo laden pads, pens and letter openers enter our home growing up. Not a Christmas went by that a generic drug promotional this or that was not stuffed into our Christmas stocking. My Dad liked the attention of the drug reps and he would often beam when discussing how he was courted. I was also used to my Dad's homemade drug concoctions and being comforted by a spoonful of this or a spoonful of that. A pill would heal any ill! While other Dads would bring home pens from the office, we got many colored pills in safety cap orange plastic bottles.

Yes, as an adult I have paid the price for this self drugging. And so, my search for a better way had led my husband and I to Life Extension www.lef.org. And so, after reading Pharmocracy, I have come to fully understand just how cozy the FDA is with the drug industry. And it makes me burning mad!

On a personal note, my Dad has now been diagnosed with Lewy Body and Parkinson's. I am quite frustrated because I know with all of my soul that he would benefit from a simple liver detox. I am told that "We do not want to muddy the waters". Thus, my advise and counsel is ignored and -  you guessed it! A drug cocktail is administered to my Dad (because he is no longer sane enough to know what pills he should take) day in and day out. I helplessly sit by and watch him decline.

I have a battle to wage in my own life regarding drugging (in my case now it is the lack thereof). My medicine cabinet is filled with healthy essential oils and plant based cocktails. I will only allow a drug if I am dying.

Throughout Pharmocracy famous quotes are included. I loved Thomas Jefferson's quote on page 313. "That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it." Thomas Jefferson, Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.

Pharmocracy is filled with cross references and footnotes in each section. I appreciate this because I do not want to rely on what one person says without backing up those statements with facts. I trust many well-intentioned authors, but references allow me to be a Berean!

My Dad will sadly and is dying on his own sword. For this reason, it is one of my life goals to reverse this legacy in my own life. Pharmocracy by William Faloon is a  must read for anyone serious about being empowered to fight the western world's power move to control every aspect of our healthcare. I may not be able to change what other people do to endanger their own health but I sure can plant seeds and sit back as hopefully some will listen.

I love Life Extension! Please visit their site and consider supporting this wonderful organization. http://www.lifeextension.com/vitamins-supplements/item33835/pharmocracy

Thank you Mr. Faloon for this wonderful eye-opening resource!

Botanical Splash Body Moisturizer and Revitalizer by Trusted Health Products, Inc.

Delicious citrus scent!! I was excited to review another skin essential product from Trusted Health Products, Inc. Especially excited because oils are my skin's new best friend. The directions from the manufacturer state best used after a shower. I totally agree. The oil seemed to be absorbed much quicker and water is so hydrating to begin with...

I dry body brushed, then showered, then applied Botanical Splash to my neck, decollete, shoulders on down my arms and then finished up by applying to the back of my hands. Oh la la! (I don't say that too often!) Since I shower at nite, my husband was super happy to smell me the whole nite long. He likes citrus scents. This product is made with 100% pure botanical oils of almond, orange, lime, lemon, olive and avocado. Yum!

From a health perspective, this product hits all the marks. Direct from Trusted Health Products, Inc., "No preservatives, parabens, petroleum-based oils, GMOs, synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrances, colorings, or additives of any kind." For this reason, this product qualifies for my In Good Health category.

Spray this product 2-3 times daily for problem areas. I also was surprised to read that Botanical Splash can be used as an underarm deodorant. Convenient for travel!

I have noticed after using this product for 3 weeks daily, sun spots have lightened (or age spots? I am not sure if there is a difference!). The wrinkle lines around my neck are less. I still  have areas I plan to tackle and I will do so with Botanical Splash! After using for a few days, I realized my skin dictated how much to apply. At first, I had to apply very liberally. I know my skin was thirsty and I felt good "feeding" it Botanical Splash ;).

Again, another wonderfully healthy unique product from Trusted Health Products, Inc.  “For a limited time, the manufacturer is willing to offer my readers one FREE bottle. They said they would love to have my readers try out Botanical Splash and agreed to send one bottle FREE if my readers would pay a minimal shipping and handling charge. This is a one-time only offer! Strawberry Basil Iced Tea by The Republic of Tea

Upon cracking open the canister, one cannot help but smile. The strawberry scent was quite present. Yum! Each large tea bag made a quart of iced tea. I added boiling water to my glass pitcher and steeped on the counter until cool. I did not add ice but chilled in the fridge. I like my tea very potent and so I did add ice to my guest's glass (but not mine), and I also added fresh sliced strawberry and fresh basil mashed in my herb pestle into our glasses. I am sure it would be beautiful to freeze strawberries and mashed basil in ice cube trays and add to your guests glasses. Pretty!

I have a confession. While reviewing this iced tea I realized I was coveting The Republic of Tea's Double Infusion pitcher. This pitcher has just been added to my Christmas in July list. (I have been very very good Santa) I would be 4 ounces short of 3 quarts so that would mean triple the Strawberry Basil Iced Tea. Perfect for the entire week.

The Republic of Tea's Strawberry Basil Iced Tea was super tasty for the entire week, summer, and all year 'round here in hot sunny South Florida.

God's Wild Herbs By Dennis Ellingson

A companion volume to God's Healing Herbs, this book enticed the reader to get out into the wild in search of herbs which God provided for our enjoyment and nourishment. While I already consider dandelion greens (I buy them every Saturday morning at our Boca Downtown Greenmarket) a safe to eat,  delicious special herb, there were other herbs I was introduced to that I still may not feel comfortable picking and eating on a hike in another town. For example, another weed named Purslane interested me. Perhaps Dennis Ellingson would like to accompany me on a nature hike through a heavily weeded area so we could pick our salad greens safely? For I would so love to become a forager and live to tell and teach about it!!!

Precious and really appreciated were the recipes threaded throughout this very special book. Sarah Campbell shared her Chickweed Pesto recipe on page 39. Complete with kelp, walnuts, garlic, evoo, salt, parmesan cheese, black pepper (and chickweed of course!), I found this recipe clever. I do not believe my Italian husband would miss the basil for even a minute! Now, where do I find chickweed? Oh that's right - the author told me. It grows in my front yard in early spring. I quote, "Another name for the plant is winterweed" because it really begins its largest growth spurt during the fall, through winter and then, bang, come spring and the stuff is all over the place." As if we needed another good reason to discontinue our lawn pesticide service forever!

The photos were very helpful. Kit Ellingson took the photos for which we applaud her courage as she climbed through all things green and buggy to get the perfect shots. I enjoyed the beauty on each and every page.

Author Dennis Ellingson can be found on Facebook as The Herb Guy. He is also a Pastor and family man. I appreciated God's Wild Herbs and hope to bravely search for and successfully find some of the wild herbs presented. I know I would be in good company with other foragers four legged and other. God is so good to give us His creation. We just need to go out and enjoy it! Thank you Dennis Ellingson for an inspirational guide book to wild herbs!

God's Healing Herbs by Dennis Ellingson

Complete with recipes, pencil sketch drawing of herbs with full context of their history back in the Bible days and so much more! I love this book as it served as a book I would keep in my kitchen bookshelf and refer to often.

My hope is that I will become a wealth of knowledge in regard to everyday herbs I use to make my family's meals. I consider knowing these facts about herbs a bridge to connect with those who may not normally be open to Bible facts who visit me for a meal or just to hang out in my kitchen. In this manner, I consider this special book a witnessing tool.

I appreciated the three separate sections titled: Twelve Essential Herbs for Women, Men and Children. I had not considered herbs as plant life that would heal me or lead to better health. I did not think of herbs as anything else but flavoring for an entrée or dessert. I considered herbs to be a garnish. Not so, as you will learn in God's Healing Herbs. In the Table of Medicinal Herbs: External and Internal, I was surprised to learn I could use herbs such as cinnamon and ginger on my hair! I found the internal chart to be not only exciting but inspiring. God intended for us to eat off the land. How far we have come from this basic approach. All the answers are in this book for the reader to not only live a healthy life by eating herbs but to overcome existing disease by eating herbs!

This book gives me hope that a Christian who has given up control of their health to the western attitude of "just pop a pill" will have their eyes opened to the exciting world of healing herbs which God intended for our use. This book has become a part of my personal library and though I will share the title with others, I will not allow my copy of God's Healing Herbs to leave my house.

Lastly, I smiled as I noticed the dedication on the front inside cover. It read, "Dedicated to the Lord God, who was "walking in the garden in the cool of the day" (Gen 3:8)."

Thank you God for the garden, for the thorns and thistles and so much more. Thank you Dennis Ellingson, for leading us to the back to the ground for a taste of all that was and still is good in the garden.

Busy Mom's Guide to Nutrition

This helpful book by Paul C. Reisser, M.D. was not just for busy Moms, but also Dads, and for that matter anyone who is looking to become healthier.  Busy Mom's Guide to Family Nutrition is a great overview for someone who has become confused by the latest fad diets, best-selling way to lose weight, etc. etc. All of us have heard of Dr. Phil's diet book, the Hollywood diets, injection diets and so many more trends in nutrition. Just turn on Dr. Oz during the week and you will hear as many as five or more ways to lose weight in just one show!

While I do not consider myself a beginner in the area of nutrition and health, I did appreciate several aspects of this book. Chapter One "Nutritional Basics" addressed sugar and how sugar in its various forms affects our bodies. I learned much about what glucose is and how sugar can cause the whole body to become imbalanced. My husband and I quit eating and/or drinking sugar a year ago, and so I really appreciated the author explaining the alternatives to pure sugar. Having kicked the sugar habit, I no longer crave sweets and if I attempt to drink a sip of soda, I get a belly ache. So, I know getting healthier and losing weight can truly begin with cutting sugar out of your diet. For that reason, I applauded the inclusion of the sugar discussion in Chapter One.

While this book heeded the mandate to treat your body as a temple, ( this is the official book of The Focus on the Family Physician's Resource Council, USA) it was not a book only for the Christian market. No doubt, this book would easily be embraced by the secular market.

This book is a gentle approach to a healthier lifestyle. I appreciated the easy way the author summarized raw food diets, Biblical diets, and paleolithic diets. I do adopt many aspects of raw food diets and Biblical diets. I believe a healthy lifestyle begins with balance. God gives us a sound mind to make the best decisions for our health. I have experienced better health as a result of taking ideas from the different buffets of diets. I enjoyed this book because the author did not ditch any of the three but mentioned highlights and low lights of each, thus allowing the reader an intro into each and the opportunity to become a diet Berean.

I had a few criticisms of this book. I understood this book to be an intro to better health and a great place for someone seeking better nutrition. I felt it would be more beneficial if the book were more substantial in length as I feel having a dictionary of sorts or a manual to pull off a shelf as needed would make this book more necessary. Also, the cover led me to believe I may receive recipes as well, thus causing this book to earn a space in my kitchen bookshelf next to my cookbooks. An additional chapter could have included modern new kitchen gadgets with a sampling of easy recipes for these kitchen gadgets addressed to a Mom or Dad on the go.

This 186 page book may be a one time read just because the reader gleans everything in one read and then does not need to refer to it again. Possibly the author did intend this book to be passed along as opposed to shelved and referenced. I just felt the reader reading it and keeping it might cause the reader to be accountable. For me personally, my most important books become dog-eared and highlighted. I also write in notes, in pen for good measure. Those books worthy of my scribbles remain a long time in my library. They become necessary spokes on my good health wheel. I consider these books to be long-time friends. I had hoped that this book could be more of a nutritional primer that would be passed through the generations.

This book I will happily pass along to a friend who is a busy Mom and a person who needs to start at the ground floor to better health. A "been there and done that" dieter who needs a fresh approach - - my friend will no doubt glean much from Busy Mom's Guide to Family Nutrition.

Love Food & Live Well by Chantel Hobbs

Subtitled Lose Weight, Get Fit & Taste Life at Its Very Best, this hardback gem reminded me that food is not the enemy! Our struggle is in understanding and abiding by moderation and focus on our Creator, God for discipline in our lifestyles.
Author Chantel Hobbs included Biblical accounts of people just like us, who struggled with their humanity. She offered hope and healing throughout the pages of this book. She had an inspiring, yet tough-as-nails attitude about meal preparation.

Her authority came first from God, then her knowledge of health, and then from her successful account of losing weight and keeping it off. Her dedication For the lost was special and relatable. And please do not skip to Chapter One but read the Introduction. Eye opening.I appreciated reading of the science behind the formula. I learned how to calculate my Basal Metabolic Rate and to use it as a starting point. Cheered as she mentioned about building lean muscle and making building lean muscle a priority. I am currently attempting to do this in a healthy way. I learned so much about calorie intake, and the balance of exercise and diet.

I plan on trying out her recipes as well as dusting off my big exercise ball and weights. The photos of her exercising were quite helpful and inspiring too. I needed a jump start to get my diet and exercise plan revved up before Jan 1 rolls around. I didn't need to wait until the New Year to make a resolution to eat better and lose a few pounds. Chantel Hobbs has inspired me to Love Food & Live Well! We only have one life. We need to make the most of it.

Gotta go. Got too much energy to sit here and type. My sneakers are screaming my name. Thanks Chantel, for a wonderful resource chock-full of ideas and positive points for living my life well!

FITNESS: DVD "Walk Away The Pounds Ultimate Collection" by Leslie Sansone

See Commercial Review on Amazon.com  click here

Living in steamy South Florida one can understand seeking an indoor workout solution in the summer. I found  Leslie Sansone's "Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection" DVD to be an excellent tool to get in shape and lose weight. This truly is an Ultimate Collection.

Besides filling the bill of being "an indoor workout solution" this DVD is a deal at $9.99. I avoid the monthly gym membership fee by being creative in my fitness routine.  However, I have wasted money in the past purchasing DVDs even after reading great reviews. Sadly, those exercise faux pas collect dust or end up in the Goodwill donation bag. I think we can all relate to this disappointment.

This collection gives you 4 choices: 1 Mile Get Up & Get Started, 2 Mile Brisk Walk, 3 Mile Advanced Walk, 4 Mile Super Challenge.  I walked all four episodes and my favorite is the 3 mile walk. This is my fav because Leslie uses the purple resistance band (comes with your DVD). I like the variety of walking (side to side, shimmying forward, leg lifts, leg kicks, and arm raises). If I feel particularly challenged after walking 3 miles while still walking I fast forward to the 4 mile walk (skipping the warmup) and then just keep going til I decide to stop.

All exercise DVDs I have used have had one thing in common. Maybe you can relate. The person leading the workout starts to irritate me about the 3rd or 4th time I watch the DVD. Maybe you can relate to this? Sometimes the reason simply is too much of the person and not enough focus on the actual exercise. Basically, the big personality steals the show.

Leslie has the opposite effect on me, personally. She is an encouragement in that she allows me to feel that I am just not viewing the DVD, but I am a part of her group getting in shape, enjoying the camaraderie of the girls (oh sorry there is one guy in the group). I wear an Ipod shuffle now cause how many times can you listen to her repeat what she says? When I do decide to listen in I smile because she is so uplifting, and humble in that she is coming alongside her walkers and relating to them. She shares that she agrees we all may eat too much but it isn't the food that is causing us to gain weight (then she adds - well - maybe it is) but then goes on to inject us with some reminders to hydrate and turn on the DVD whenever we want to feel better about ourselves.

And I love this! She reminds us that the walking does work and not to give up. And none of this talk is patronizing or infomercial-oriented. She is the girl next-door - someone that would teach a women's bible study in her home and meet you for tea just because you needed a friend in your hour of need.

Call me crazy but the only flaw in this DVD is that I may just wear it out from playing it too much! Save your money and skip each individual DVD workout she has out there up until the Ultimate Collection. Toss that membership discount and free trial ad that arrives in your mailbox every month. We all know that costs more than we need to spend these days. This exercise method works and is enjoyable to watch.

Go grab your sneakers, turn down the air, work up a sweat and.....Walk Away the Pounds! You knew I had to give this product one last plug. I know Leslie would thank me for my kind review. I can hear her girlie girl giggle - the same one I hear everyday for 3 miles ...but whose counting....just counting the pounds that walk away each day.
